"Moon Map Pro continues to be one of my most-used apps."
– Rod Mollise, Contributing Editor, Sky & Telescope, March 2015.

This app has two sets of maps. The first one covers most of the nearside and contains about 1200 named lunar formations. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter maps cover the whole Moon: over 8000 names, including lettered craters. You can toggle between maps using Map button.

To view a map click on a map number in the scrollable index map. You can scroll around the map and mirror and rotate it. You can zoom in and out by pinching. You can also zoom in by double tap and zoom out by two-finger tap.

Tap Search button to select a name from a list. Over 1800 lunar formations included. Lunar coordinates are in coordinate frame LOLA 2011.

On iPhone screen 1 mm is about 3 km on the moon with maximum zoom. Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter maps: on iPhone screen 1 mm is about 1.3 km on the moon with maximum zoom.

Map numbering system is from Lunar Astronautical Charts (LAC).

You can see current data (e.g. terminator) and in calculations view you can see data backward and forward in time.

Pros and cons of Moon Map Pro app for iPhone and iPad

Moon Map Pro app good for

Version 1.1 on iPod with 2.2.1 OS A very nice pocket reference. Its like having a copy of Rukl in your hand. Easy to use and a good level of detail. The mirror funcion is a help when working at the eyepiece. (Adding a vertical mirror option would be good for reflector users.) Besides the additional orientation option, a red-light night vision mode would be a nice addition.
This App provides excellent detailing of Lunar features which have been made even better with the inclusion of the Lunar Orbiter maps. If you have a telescope and like to explore the Moon, this is the best map utility you can have with you at the eyepiece. You can easily find features and even the landing points for the Apollo missions and other spacecraft. There is enough detail in these maps for astronomers with large instruments to identify the smaller craters, etc. You will find it fascinating.
Excellent use of the iPhone to make the details of the moon portable, useable, and identifiable. Programmer is quick and responsive to questions. The only thing that would make it even more useful is a "search" feature to find the extensive surface features available on this app. The programmer assures me this is on his list for future releases. Great job!
Works exactly as advertised. Only missing a few features: -Search function as previous reviewer commented would be very useful. -I wish the mirror option didnt also mirror the text. Hard to read it this way. -Please add the apollo landing sites as well as the other missions like you did on the less expensive version of this app. Shouldnt it be on the Pro version? Will definitely revise my rating to 5 stars if a few of these features get updated. UPDATED: Developer added many of the requested features. Changed my review to 5 stars. Thank you!
Great app and the update fixed all the issues I found, but somehow Apollo 11, though listed under search, is visually omitted though the named of the astronauts are listed, the Apollo 11 site marking isnt on the map as the other Apollo sites are.
The program displays the LAC maps nicely Unfortunately when you rotate or mirror the image the labels appear upside down and/or backwards Easter egg in map 77

Some bad moments

I bought this for its mirror image, useful for scopes with star diagonals. Unfortunately MMP reverses the names as well making them unreadable and the app unusable. I have a nice Moon map book. I look at a whole-Moon image and select a segment to examine on a detailed page... Just like Moon Map Pro. MMPs organization is no improvement over an old book. Its just as inconvenient.
